The words incomplete, insufficient, negligent, broken, and delinquent all have one thing in common: a strong association with failure. Despite failure being the precise antithesis of success, its often a necessary evil in the process of growth. Now allow me to explain why.
When you meet anyone who is “successful”, you only are seeing the product of resolve after the frequent shortcomings. Success is not a one-off phenomenon, it is a routine. It is a daily practice. It is dedication and passion to see it through despite the “failures” you are faced with. When giving praise and adoration to your role models recognize they did not get to that point in a matter of minutes, or a few days. Realize that there is no formula to get around putting work into to your passion on a regular basis. The difference between a success is failure is the endurance. “Rome was not built in one day and neither was long lasting success.”
Don’t get me wrong, failure is a legit fear that everyone faces. Sometimes those failures bring deep pain, shame, and embarrassment which ignites the fire and desire to achieve. I look back on my freshman year of college, and I was a failure. I had finished my first semester with a GPA below 2.0. I was so ashamed to had let my family down, but more importantly I was letting my future self down. I was disappointed in my performance, but I decided that this “failure” was not the end. I decided, that was a wakeup call and I would be damned if I was caught sleeping again.
That next semester literally, my wake-up call. I had to strongly define what my true goal was and make a commitment to that goal at all cost. Without a clear vision, you will be bewildered on a wandering path. That wandering can lead to much frustration and more failure. My plan answered the call and sparked new found success in many facets of my life. A small change had a big impact.
One of the great features a human possesses is the ability to adapt, adjust, and change. Every expert was a novice at some point. We all give something a try but success is not talent alone, it is a pattern, a routine, a great habit that is done with great effort. A commitment is made in a single moment but success is made on a regular basis with the commitment. Even the most talented athletes, entrepreneurs, entertainers, and engineers alike have faced failure before seeing the prized possession of success. And YOU are on well on your way, so long that you make the choice today!
